Ram Anatomy

Sooooo I posted a post long ago about sheep anatomy, but I don't think too many people looked at it. I just noticed that the character designs for the ram are lacking proper ram anatomy, so here is another post about ram bones n' such.

Here are some drawings I did of ram leg bones.
Notice the rhythm of the bones. Also see that the bend comes from the
"wrist" and the power from the "elbow".
Also also, remember that ram's have cloven hooves.

Back legs are similar, look at the rhythm. Bend comes from the "knee" and the "ankle" is grounded for power.

Notice how all the bones line up very closely.

Here are some nice motion on the skeletons.

Even with skin and muscles over it, the skeleton is still very prominent.

Hopefully this helps get rid of bear rams!

How I Imagined Mountain Man

Awesome posts, guys--keep them coming! As I have been storyboarding, I have also been thinking about the design for the mountaineer (I am thinking he seems like a "Victor" --is that manly enough?) I know we don't need to do fully rendered designs, but tonight I just copied and pasted a storyboard and slapped some colors on it!

Wesley posted some pictures of Charles Muntz (the villain from Pixar's "Up"), and coincidentally after Ethan pitched the story, I pictured his younger design in my mind as well.

I know I have a specific style, but here's my Jenna-fied version of how I originally imagined Mountain Man to look like (next to him are some of the storyboards I've done):

Of course Ethan (the visual development lead) and I will have to talk about this, but one idea I thought of was to make the mountaineer triangular in contrast with the fluffy rams, in other words, maintaining this kind of shape:

Just shum food for thought! :) Thank you, thank you, thank you for your posts! Keep those ideas coming!

Adorableness

Here's some thoughts and research on how we could take the adorableness of bighorn lambs and translate it into a cartoony design aesthetic.
To start, here are a couple photos of bighorn lambs:

The main notes for adorableness here are pretty much the same as what Chris said in his earlier post. Bighorn lambs have a bony, flimsy looking build, large shiny black eyes, cute little noses, etc, which make you want to protect them.

Now for cute things in animation:
Archie the scare pig has these flimsy little legs that make him look frail but still playful - a trait that can be seen in the bighorn lambs above.
One thing I really like about Mavis from Hotel Transylvania here is how simplified her shapes are.
And lastly, Puss in Boots has ridiculously big, overly shiny eyes that help to communicate a sense of over the top cuteness.

Little Ram

Sorry--one more post for the night. Today I also found some time to draw some quick concepts of baby. I am really into drawing cute things, so I was excited to get this guy off my mind and onto some digital paper! His eyes are a little funky, but it's getting late so I will get back to them another time.

His name is not actually Rambo. :) I asked my brother for a name with "Ram" in it, and this is all we could think of besides Ramplestiltskin.

If you find the time over break to do some sketching for Ram's Horn, post them up on the blog! Seriously--anything from sketchy pencil drawings to paintings. Feel free to post it up!

Alright Folks!

Welcome to the official BYU animation 2015 Ram's Horn blog. Let's make a film!

When posting, please label your posts with your name and the subject of the post. I already added some relevant labels to this post, so use those when possible.
