Art Theme: Pop up book or Wood Carving

While thinking about how the story would be told in the narrative, I imagine that our hiker would create a craft typical to the alpine area where he lives. The most interesting ideas that come to mind are either a wood carving aesthetic (like the story is told on a very ornate cuckoo clock), a folded paper aesthetic (because he made the world's best pop up book), or a huge cross stitch tapestry:
